A SELF-CONFESSED ‘proper awful student’ has knuckled down and come out smiling with a set of impressive GCSE results.
Charlie Bertenshaw is the first to admit he was not exactly committed to life at Mossley Hollins High School.
But after deciding to give it his best for his final year, he has surpassed even his own expectations.
After scoring almost entirely grade sevens – equivalent to As – Charlie, who comes from Mossley, admitted: “I’ve been, to be honest, a proper awful student.
“I didn’t pay attention or anything and got a bunch of detentions – but the start of Year 11, I had a proper mindset change.
“I just thought, ‘Right, I need to get it together now. I’m in Year 11.’ So I just focused.
“That was the moment it changed and I’ve surpassed everything that I thought I would get.”
Now his GCSE success is sealed, Charlie says he will ‘probably’ go to Ashton Sixth Form College, here he ‘might do either business or biology.’
Certainly criminology and psychology as he eyes a future career in that field.
And he can then go on to cause further surprises after adding: “It’s better than I expected personally.
“My predicted grades were roughly six and sevens.”
