PEOPLE aged over 50 in Stalybridge and Dukinfield are being asked what would make their communities better places to live and grow older.
The Live Well in Later Life (LWILL) programme is encouraging local people to share their experiences and help shape support services for older residents.

People living in the two areas are being asked to consider three questions: What’s it like to live in Dukinfield or Stalybridge? How could we make it better? How can we work together?
The responses will be used to help understand what matters most to residents and support the development of more age-friendly spaces where people can thrive in later life.
The programme builds on the Greater Manchester Ageing in Place Pathfinder in Ridge Hill, which ran between 2022 and 2025.
During the Pathfinder, Jigsaw Support worked alongside organisations including Tameside Council’s Public Health team to engage with more than 400 older people in the area.
LWILL is now being delivered across Greater Manchester, with each of the region’s 10 local authorities receiving a share of funding to deliver the programme locally.
The initiative brings together housing providers, health services and voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations.
Councillor Michael Smith, Tameside Council’s first deputy and executive member for population health and wellbeing, said: “When communities are supported and involved, there’s better outcomes for everyone.
“Ridge Hill has shown us just that by demonstrating how bringing health and support closer to home is vital.
“I encourage residents over 50 and in this area to take part and complete the survey, so we know exactly what living well in later life looks like for different people.”

Donna Kelly, group director of support and neighbourhoods at Jigsaw Homes Group, said: “At the heart of this project is a commitment to listening to the community, so that together we can create meaningful, lasting change that makes a difference now and for years to come.
“We are equally passionate about involving local residents every step of the way over the next three years so please do get in touch.”
The programme forms part of Greater Manchester’s wider Live Well ambition, which aims to ensure people have access to everyday support within their neighbourhoods.
It also supports Greater Manchester’s commitment to being an age-friendly city region, which has been recognised by the World Health Organisation.
LWILL is supported by Tameside Council and delivered by Jigsaw Support. The initiative also forms part of Tameside Council’s 2026-2030 plan to increase engagement with communities and bring everyday support closer to where people live.
Residents aged over 50 in Stalybridge and Dukinfield can complete an online form to share their views.
