Ashton-under-Lyne MP Angela Rayner has donated £5,000 to The Anthony Seddon Fund following a recent speaking engagement.
The donation was made to the Tameside-based mental health charity, which supports people living with long-term mental health conditions and carries out suicide prevention work.
Ben James, Operations Manager at The Anthony Seddon Fund, said the charity was pleased to welcome Ms Rayner in her role as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
During her visit, discussions focused on the links between housing and mental health, as well as the role local councils can play when working alongside charities.
Ben said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Angela Rayner to The Anthony Seddon Fund in her role as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
“We spoke about the link between housing and mental health issues, and the importance of local councils working with charities such as ours.”
He added that the charity was “extremely grateful” for the donation, saying the money would help it continue its work supporting people with long-term mental health conditions and its suicide prevention initiatives.
The Anthony Seddon Fund provides a community space where people can access support, with Ben saying the charity serves an average of 40 to 50 cups of tea and coffee each day.
The charity is also due to host a suicide prevention awareness walk in September as part of its ongoing work to raise awareness and support people affected by mental health issues.
Ben said: “This money goes a long way to continue this work and more.”
