SEEING what lies around him proved enough for Jamie Pinder to achieve A-Level brilliance.
Now the Staybridge lad is looking to make a difference after studying Environmental Science at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The former Longdendale High School pupil gained a Distinction Star in his Applied Science BTec and a B and C in Geology and Maths A-Levels respectively at Ashton Sixth Form College.
Now he hopes his degree course can put him on the path towards making a difference.
Jamie, who admitted watching a David Attenborough documentary triggered his interest, said: “I want to look at global warming and the effects of it.
“I want to look at all the environment itself. The nature of the world, the tropical side, the geology side, the geography, everything.
“Everyone’s looking at going into these glass offices, I want to be out in the field and see what’s actually making the world sick.
“I want to see my kids grow up in a world where they can be proud of and go to places and see the water’s clear, no pollution, no mud.
“I look at the river in Stalybridge and think, ‘That could be cleaner.’ I look at the canals as well and feel sorry for the wildlife.
“I look at places around me. The traffic is not helpful. It’s society versus the environment.”
After being at Ashton Sixth Form College for two years, Jamie now has a clear idea of where he wants to do what he has wanted to do.
Something he maybe did nit have when he started.
He added: “It helped me out.
“I was originally looking at different things in general. The same course, but different universities.
“Sixth Form has helped me hone some skills and navigate me to the places that will actually show me what will get the best impact from me.
“I knew what I wanted to do, I’ve always known that. It’s just the place I wanted to go.”
