A Hattersley author has turned Manchester’s famous rainy weather into the inspiration for a new children’s picture book celebrating the city.
Lainee Perez has released The Day Manchester Ran Out of Rain, an imaginative story for children under six, featuring illustrations by Sinem Kilic R.
The book follows Betsy, a young girl who discovers that Manchester has mysteriously stopped raining. As she sets off to investigate, she encounters protected puddles, worried bees, stalled trams and umbrellas pointed hopefully towards the sky as the city waits for its familiar downpour to return.
Described as a love letter to Manchester, the picture book celebrates home, hope and the comfort of the city’s famously wet weather through a light-hearted and whimsical story.
Lainee, who has lived in Manchester for more than 20 years, said the city’s unpredictable weather was the inspiration behind the book.
