A POP-UP beach, open-air theatre performances and family arts events are among the attractions lined up across Tameside during the school summer holidays.
Tameside Council has unveiled a programme of free and low-cost activities aimed at keeping children and families entertained throughout the break.
Events are taking place in parks, museums and town centres across the borough.
One of the highlights is the return of Theatre in the Park, which will bring a series of family-friendly productions to green spaces in Tameside.
Audiences can expect performances inspired by well-known stories, including Old McDonald, alongside newer productions such as The Circus Runaways. Each show will be staged twice, at 11am and 2pm.
Families will also be able to get involved in Outdoor Arts sessions taking place in parks and open spaces, with hands-on workshops offering children the chance to try a range of creative activities.
At Portland Basin Museum in Ashton-under-Lyne, an Our Museum Day will take place on Thursday, July 30, from 11am to 3pm. The free event will celebrate the borough’s heritage with a programme of family activities, while the popular Make, Do, Play sessions will continue throughout the holidays.
Hyde Park will host the Family Arts Jam on Wednesday, August 12, from 11am until 4pm.
The council says the event will feature workshops and activities led by artists and creatives, with theatre performances and outdoor arts sessions also forming part of the day.
More events are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, including the return of the pop-up beach in Stalybridge, which proved popular with families last summer.
The summer programme also sits alongside a busy calendar of regular events, including Stalybridge Street Fests, Super Saturdays and the Mossley Farmers and Artisan Markets.
Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “It’s great to see such an exciting programme for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the summer. Our teams do a wonderful job planning such a varied and engaging range of events, and we want as many people as possible to come along and get involved.
