AS warmer weather arrives, you can make use of 40 free water refill stations across Tameside.
The network of refill points, located in community venues and businesses, allows anyone to top up their drinking water bottle free of charge while out and about.
The initiative forms part of the national Refill campaign, which encourages people to carry reusable water bottles instead of buying single-use plastic ones.
The scheme aims to reduce plastic waste, save money and make it easier for people to stay hydrated.
People can use the refill stations by taking along a bottle – ideally a reusable one – and asking staff for a free refill. Participating venues display the official Refill window sticker so they can be easily identified.
There are currently 40 refill stations spread across Tameside, giving residents, workers and visitors convenient access to drinking water throughout the borough. You can see a map of locations here: https://www.tameside.gov.uk/refill-scheme/map
Tameside Council says the scheme supports its environmental ambitions while also promoting healthier lifestyles.
Tameside Council’s First Deputy and Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Michael Smith, said: “Our refill stations are a simple way for people to stay hydrated while helping to protect the environment. With 40 locations across Tameside, it’s easier than ever for residents, workers and visitors to access free drinking water.”
The council is also inviting more businesses and community organisations to join the network for free, by contacting refill@tameside.gov.uk.
