A DUKINFIELD primary school has been recognised for its work supporting the health, happiness and wellbeing of pupils and staff.
Broadbent Fold Primary School and Nursery has achieved Well School status for the 2025/26 to 2026/27 academic years through a national accreditation scheme run by children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust.
The Well Schools movement brings together more than 2,000 schools and trusts across the UK that are working to improve education outcomes by creating environments where children and staff can thrive.
To achieve the accreditation, Broadbent Fold’s senior leadership team completed a Well School: Well Check self-review and submitted evidence showing how the school supports its community across four key areas – Well Culture, Lead Well, Move Well and Live Well.
The evidence was then independently reviewed by an expert Beacon Well School to ensure the required standards were met.
The achievement reflects the Tennyson Avenue school’s focus on creating a positive environment where children feel supported and motivated to learn.
“I am so very proud of the culture we have created at Broadbent Fold,” headteacher Catherine Parker said. “My school community is fully supportive of all our work and this creates happy, healthy children who want to come to school.”
Research from the Youth Sport Trust has found that many families place a strong emphasis on wellbeing, with 64 per cent of parents saying pupil wellbeing is more important than academic achievement when choosing a secondary school.

When children are healthy and happy, they are ready to learn.
