Ashton set for afternoon of free family fun

FAMILIES are being invited to enjoy a free afternoon of entertainment when St Peter’s Community Gathering hosts its annual family fun day later this month.

The event will take place at Active Oxford Park on Pottinger Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, on Sunday, July 26, from 12pm until 4pm.

Visitors can look forward to live music, light refreshments, stalls, face painting, fun games, a bouncy castle, henna and a range of other activities, with organisers promising something for all ages to enjoy.

The event is funded by the Jigsaw Homes Foundation and has become a popular date in the local community calendar.

Councillor Atta Ul-Rasool, who has been involved with the St Peter’s Community Gathering since 2023, said: “It’s a real privilege to work alongside our incredible team to bring this fantastic community event to life each year.

“There’ll be something for everyone to enjoy so gather your family, invite your friends, and come along for an afternoon packed with fun, laughter and community spirit.

“A huge thank you to Jigsaw Homes Tameside for funding this event and helping make it possible.”

Last year’s event attracted hundreds of children and families despite an unsettled start to the day, with the rain eventually clearing to make way for sunshine.

Among the special guests were Tameside’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Helen Bowden, alongside Ms Endeavour UK Great Britain, Wolverine and the ever-popular R2-D2, who proved a hit with younger visitors.
