Dukinfield primary recognised as a Well School

A DUKINFIELD primary school is officially ‘well’ after taking action to help the happiness of its staff and pupils.

Broadbent Fold, on Tennyson Avenue, has made the grade as a Well School in an accreditation scheme run by national children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust.

It is now one of more than 2,000 establishments around eh country to have achieved the recognition.

The senior leadership team at Broadbent Fold had undertook a self-review titled Well School: Well Check and submitted evidence that demonstrated how they are supporting pupils and staff across four pillars – Well Culture, Lead Well, Move Well and Live Well.

That evidence was then reviewed by an expert Beacon Well School to ensure that the strict standards of a certified Well School were met.

Recent research from the Youth Sport Trust showed 64 per cent of parents agree that pupil wellbeing is more important than academic achievement when it comes to selecting a secondary school.

And upon receiving the award, headteacher Catherine Parker Headteacher was overjoyed.

She said: “I am so very proud of the culture we have created at Broadbent Fold.

“My school community is fully supportive of all our work and this creates – happy, healthy children who want to come to school.”

Ali Oliver MBE, chief executive of the Youth Sport Trust added: “We know a child’s wellbeing is the foundation for their success, both in and out of the classroom, and physical activity including PE, sport and play is vital to their physical, social, and emotional development.

“When children are healthy and happy, they are ready to learn.

“Through our development of the Well School and Well School Trust movement, a growing collection of schools and Trusts are taking positive action to improve education outcomes by supporting the health and happiness of their staff and pupils, creating environments where every young person can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.

“The Youth Sport Trust congratulates Broadbent Fold on their accreditation, and we will be here to support them on their Well School journey.”
