Tameside trio serve up major Manchester padel tournament

Three young entrepreneurs from Tameside are preparing to host their biggest padel tournament to date, as the fast-growing sport continues to gain momentum across the UK.

On Sunday, 7 June, Aaron Clayton, Bradley McLaughlin and Alex Wilcox, the trio behind Silverpoint Padel, will stage a major tournament at Carbon Padel Manchester, marking 12 consecutive months of organising monthly competitions in the city.

Padel, a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, has seen a sharp rise in participation across Britain in recent years, with new courts and clubs opening nationwide as demand continues to grow.

The event is expected to attract players from across the country and will showcase the growing popularity of padel, one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, while reinforcing Manchester’s position as an emerging hub for the game.

The tournament will feature two separate competitions designed to cater for players of different abilities.

The morning session will be an intermediate-level tournament lasting three-and-a-half hours, with level restrictions in place to ensure competitive matches. Winners will receive a £500 cash prize, while additional prizes will be awarded to consolation draw winners.

The afternoon event will raise the standard even further, with an advanced open competition featuring some of the highest-ranked padel players in the UK. The current UK number one male and female players are both set to compete, with a £1,000 cash prize on offer for the winners alongside consolation prizes.

The organisers say their mission has always been to create a consistent and inclusive tournament structure that provides opportunities for players at every stage of their development, from newcomers and improving amateurs through to elite competitors.

Over the past year, Silverpoint Padel has built a growing community around its monthly events, helping to make competitive padel more accessible while supporting the sport’s rapid expansion in the Northwest.

With top-ranked players, significant prize money and competitors travelling from around the UK, the June tournament is expected to be the organisation’s largest and most prestigious event yet.
