Comedy Weekender back in Stalybridge with line-up packed with punchlines

STALYBRIDGE is preparing to get the last laugh this summer as the Comedy Weekender returns with a bill packed full of TV stars, award winners and stand-up heavyweights.

After selling out audiences in its debut year, the two-night comedy event is making a comeback at Victoria Market Hall in the town centre on July 17 and 18.

Organisers Tameside Council are promising even bigger laughs this time around (that’s not a joke!)

With just 250 seats available each night, comedy fans may need to act fast before tickets vanish quicker than a comic after a bad gig.

Friday night’s line-up features Scott Bennett, Justin Moorhouse and Paul Sinha, best known as one of ITV’s The Chase Chasers. The evening will be hosted by popular compere Danny McLoughlin.

Saturday brings another stacked bill, with Phil Ellis hosting performances from Amy Gledhill, Josh Pugh and Taskmaster favourite Lucy Beaumont, whose surreal style and deadpan delivery have made her a cult comedy favourite.

Between them, the acts boast credits from Live at the Apollo, Celebrity Traitors, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Taskmaster and sell-out tours across the UK.

The weekender is part of the continued revival of Victoria Market Hall, formerly Stalybridge Civic Hall, which has been undergoing something of a comeback tour of its own following a pilot programme of live events last year.

Julian Jackson, Director of Housing, Environment & Estates at Tameside Council, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Stalybridge Comedy Weekender back after such a fantastic first year.

“It is brilliant to see Victoria Market Hall hosting such high-quality live entertainment, bringing people into the town, and supporting our local economy. With such a strong line-up of well-known acts, this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, and we cannot wait to see audiences enjoying a great night out in Stalybridge.”

Doors open at 7.30pm, with shows starting at 8.15pm.

Tickets cost £20 and go on sale at midday on Friday, May 29. They will be available at www.intameside.co.uk/comedyweekender
