New Ashton community hub opens doors

ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE is home to a new community hub in an attempt to build stronger relationships.

The Ashton Central facility has opened its doors at Jigsaw Homes’ Cavendish Mill development.

New Tameside Councillor Atta Ul-Rasool was joined by Independent St Peter’s ward colleague Cllr Kaleel Khan as it immediately showed how it can bring people together.

Hundreds of people living in the area now have access to vital support and services, with the hope it can make a real difference in the lives of the community by providing a safe and welcoming space for residents to connect and build stronger relationships.

The hub will also deliver a range of projects and activities from creative drama and exercise classes to digital support and arts and crafts workshops.

Several free advice services will also be available from Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team, including essential energy advice, mental health support, employment opportunities and access to training courses.

Residents will also benefit from a community grocer and wardrobe, funded by the Neighbourhood Fund, which will provide practical, affordable resources for those who need them most.

Brian Moran, chief executive of Jigsaw Homes Group said: “Making a real difference in people’s lives is what drives us, and that’s why projects like this matter.

“It’s not just about providing quality homes, it’s about building communities, and this hub will give people the chance to come and enjoy range of activities and ways we can help support them.”

The community grocer and wardrobe will be open from 1pm-2:30pm every Monday, excluding Bank Holidays.

Details of other activities will be announced in due course.
