Proposed move for Stalybridge Post Office

STALYBRIDGE’S Post Office could be on the move if a switch can be agreed.

Postmasters at the Trinity Street site are proposing to relocate to a nearby location on the ground floor of The Hayloft on Dean Street.

They say it would continue to operate as one of our main style branches, offering the same range of services as currently.

And they feel it would improve what it already provides.

A spokesperson said: “Postmasters operate Post Office branches alongside their private retail business.

“And it is important that they make the very best use of their resources to ensure future sustainability of both their business and the Post Office service.

“In this case, the postmaster has identified an opportunity to move this branch into a more modern premises, will help secure continued access to Post Office services locally and supporting the viability of their business.

“Currently there is a step at the entrance to the proposed premises, works would be carried to remove the step and create level access.

“Internally, there would be low-level serving counters, low-level writing desk, hearing loops and space for a wheelchair.

“There would be four serving positions in total – two screened and two Post Office serving points at the retail counter.

“The current postmaster would continue to operate the branch with stationery retail alongside.

“And opening hours and the services provided would be unchanged.”

Consultation has begun and the opportunity to give feedback will close on Tuesday, June 23.
