TV gardener helps raise hundreds for charity at garden centre event

GREEN-FINGERED visitors flocked to a local garden centre as TV gardener David Domoney hosted a special fundraising event in support of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Garden retailer J. Parker’s welcomed the well-known horticulturist and television presenter to its Daisy Nook site on the Tameside-Oldham border.

He shared expert advice on the best plants for spring and how to help gardens bloom through the season.

During the event, David delivered a talk on “Top Seasonal Plants”, offering practical planting tips and highlighting some of the best choices for spring gardens, with local gardening enthusiasts turning out for inspiration.

The event also helped raise £750 through ticket sales, with all proceeds going towards supporting The Christie and its cancer research work at Europe’s largest single-site cancer centre.

Mr Domoney said: “I really enjoyed sharing some practical planting inspiration and highlighting some of the finest seasonal stars for the garden with a great audience today. It’s wonderful that the event is also supporting a deserving cause.”

The fundraiser forms part of J. Parker’s “In The Community” initiative, which focuses on creating gardening events and opportunities for residents across Greater Manchester.

Earlier events at Daisy Nook have included support for Women in Horticulture, a free monthly gardening club and educational projects with local schools aimed at encouraging younger generations to get growing.

Edward Doherty, Marketing Manager at J. Parker’s, said: “What a great talk and demonstration we had from David, seeing visitors leave inspired to make the most of the potential that their garden can provide. A big thank you to David for giving his time to help raise funds to support the amazing work that The Christie does.”
