A child was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at a swimming pool in Hyde.

Emergency services were called to Hyde Leisure Pool on Walker Lane on May 3, with multiple crews responding to the incident.

North West Ambulance Service has now confirmed the seriousness of the situation.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call for a child in cardiac arrest at Active Hyde and several NWAS resources were dispatched to the scene, in which a patient was then taken to Tameside General Hospital.”

Paramedics attended alongside the North West Air Ambulance, which was also sent to the scene.

Following the incident, Active Tameside confirmed the temporary closure of the facility.

In a statement, they said the centre would reopen the following day under Bank Holiday hours and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
