Hundreds turn out as Spring Jobs Fair opens doors to new careers

MORE than 700 people from across Tameside packed into Dukinfield Town Hall as the borough’s Spring Jobs Fair returned.

The event brought together dozens of employers, training providers and support services under one roof – or rather, three halls.

Organised by Tameside Council’s Employment and Skills team, the fair on Wednesday, April 1, offered everything from live job applications to hands-on careers advice.

Attendees of all ages moved between stalls, speaking directly with recruiters and discovering opportunities in sectors they may not have previously considered. For many, it was a chance to apply for roles there and then, while others sought guidance on how to take their next step.

Support was a key focus throughout the day. Attendees were able to access CV advice, job application tips and interview guidance, with specialist organisations on hand to help boost confidence as well as employability.

A wide range of organisations were represented, including Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Tameside Music Service, Hyde Group, Smart Works and The Job Gym, alongside local colleges and various council teams.

Tameside Council’s Strategic Director of Children’s Services, Jill Colbert, welcomed the turnout.

She said: “It’s fantastic to see so many residents engaging with the opportunities available across Tameside. Our jobs fairs help people take real steps towards their future – whether that’s securing a new job, accessing training, or building confidence.

“We’re proud to support our community in finding pathways that help them thrive.”

The jobs fair is held twice a year and is expected to return in the autumn, giving both employers and jobseekers another opportunity to connect.

In the meantime, residents can continue to access support through the council’s Employment and Skills team, by emailing employmentandskills@tameside.gov.uk or calling 0161 342 3111.
