A splendid Spring Show awaits in Stalybridge

A POPULAR annual event which brings the community together in Stalybridge is not far away.

The town’s Spring Show has a busy programme designed to draw families, dog lovers and entertainment seekers alike on Sunday, May 3.

Activities will run from 11am in Cheetham Park, with live performances beginning at midday.

Behind the scenes, organisers have been pulling together what they describe as a “bumper-filled day” with attractions spread across the park.

Visitors can expect everything from a large family fun fair and hot food stalls to a wide range of trader and community stands, giving the event a lively, festival atmosphere.

At the heart of the show will be a striking five-metre-high Maypole, forming the centrepiece of the park’s performance arena.

Dancers from the Sarah England School of Dance will bring it to life with two choreographed routines, complete with colourful costumes. Later in the day, the spotlight will turn to the crowd, as attendees are invited to take part in a “community demonstration dance” around the Maypole.

For animal lovers, the fun Dog Show gets under way at 1.45pm, with entries open on the day for £2 per category.

Owners can put their pets forward for titles including Dog with the Loveliest Eyes, Dog with the Waggiest Tail, The Cutest Puppy, Best Presented Dog and Best Rescue Dog. Category winners will then go head-to-head for the overall Best Dog in Show title. There will also be dog agility demonstrations running throughout the afternoon.

Organising Secretary Ian Cochrane said: “There will be lots of activities for all the family to have a great day in the Park and help us raise extra funds towards this year’s 50th anniversary Carnival, to be held on Sunday, June 28.”
