Tameside mum’s emotional event for domestic abuse support charity

A TAMESIDE businesswoman has raised £2,600 for a domestic abuse charity following an emotional and inspiring event in Manchester.

Kerry Boland hosted her first Sellethical Live event at the Voco Hotel, bringing together more than 100 guests for a day of business talks, networking and fundraising – but it was a deeply personal moment involving her daughter that left the biggest impact.

The funds raised will go to Stockport Without Abuse, a charity which previously supported Kerry’s daughter Isobel, now 12 years old, after she witnessed domestic abuse at a young age.

During the event, Isobel shared her story in a pre-recorded video, explaining how the charity helped her understand her emotions and recognise healthy relationships. Later, she joined her mother and two older brothers on stage to present the cheque – a moment that left many in the room visibly moved.

“I’m so proud of my daughter for sharing that with us and the charity representatives today,” said Kerry.

“I’m especially proud of her growth and thankful that these services were available to help her when we, as a family, needed it. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the people who have supported me at my first event and donated to the raffle that has enabled us to raise these vital funds.”

Stockport Without Abuse provides support to women, men and children experiencing abuse. The charity says demand for its services remains high, despite ongoing funding challenges.

Chief executive Samantha Higginbottom praised Isobel’s courage and the wider support shown on the day.

“I’m overwhelmed but grateful for this donation to our charity. Isobel, that was so powerful what you did today so thank you so much for sharing that with us. In fact this is a really powerful room – what an amazing group of women, thank you.”

She also highlighted the pressures facing the organisation, revealing that some services are under threat due to funding cuts – including the one that supported Isobel, which is set to end this month.

Other services, such as refuge accommodation for victims and their children, continue to operate but are under strain, with families often staying far longer than intended due to the ongoing housing crisis.

Alongside the fundraising, the event featured a line-up of speakers and entertainment, with contributors sharing advice on business growth, networking and content creation, as well as a comedy set and live music to close the day.

Following its successful debut, Sellethical Live is set to return next year, with organisers confirming a date of March 19, 2027.
