Stamford Park set for packed Spring Family Fun Day

FAMILIES from across Tameside and beyond are being encouraged to make the most of the spring sunshine as Stamford Park’s much-loved Family Fun Day returns.

The free annual event promises an afternoon of entertainment, activities and community spirit, all set against the backdrop of the park as its tulips come into bloom.

Taking place on Sunday, April 26, from midday to 4pm, a wide variety of attractions will be on offer, with stalls hosted by local charities, community groups and council services including libraries, culture teams, community safety and fostering.

Alongside them, visitors to the park on the Stalybridge-Ashton border can expect plenty of hands-on activities, aimed at keeping children and families entertained throughout.

Highlights include walkabout performers, free face painting and crafts, a birds of prey display, a climbing wall, and inflatable axe throwing and archery. The ever-popular RSPCA fun dog show is also set to return, giving four-legged friends a chance to get involved too.

Organisers say the event is designed to be accessible to everyone, with all activities free of charge. As part of a continued focus on wellbeing, the day will once again be smoke-free, with public health teams on hand to offer support and advice.

Councillor Laura Boyle, executive member for environmental services and neighbourhoods, said: “Spring Family Fun Day is one of those events that brings the community together. Year after year, it offers people of all ages a chance to spend quality time outdoors, try something new and enjoy a fantastic mix of activities without worrying about cost.

“We’re proud to offer a free event that is full of energy and fun, and we look forward to seeing residents and visitors join us for a great day out.”

Visitors are being encouraged to plan ahead, as parking around Stamford Park is limited and largely reserved for residents. Those attending are advised to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible, although pay-and-display parking will be available on Darnton Road for £1.
