A leading figure in the region’s cultural scene has been appointed as Patron of Guide Bridge Theatre.
Mark Llewellin, the newly announced High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, has accepted the honorary role, marking a significant moment for the volunteer-run venue as it looks ahead to its 2026 season.
A familiar name across Tameside, Mr Llewellin brings more than 30 years of experience in theatre, broadcasting and charity work.

His career includes training as an actor and serving as Marketing and Business Development Director at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre, alongside his work as an author and speaker on British entertainment history.
Guide Bridge Theatre volunteer Sue Holden welcomed the appointment, describing it as “a huge honour” for the venue.
She said:
“Mark has been a steadfast supporter of Guide Bridge Theatre for a number of years, often hosting fundraising talks for us. To have someone of his standing, especially during his year as High Sheriff, as our Patron is fantastic. His passion for keeping local theatre alive is exactly what we need to inspire our volunteers and audiences.”
In his new role, Mr Llewellin will act as an ambassador for the theatre, championing the importance of community venues across Greater Manchester.
He said:
“I have lived in Tameside for three decades and have always admired the dedication of the team at Guide Bridge. Community theatre is where so many find their voice and where the magic of live performance is kept accessible. I am thrilled to officially join the GBT family and look forward to supporting their fantastic work.”
Based in Audenshaw, Guide Bridge Theatre is a long-standing community venue run entirely by volunteers, offering a wide programme of productions, youth theatre and community events throughout the year.
