Tributes have been paid to a much-loved Ashton schoolboy who died just weeks after being diagnosed with leukaemia.
Haaris Ansari fell ill at the end of last month, with his family and friends left shocked when he was diagnosed. He began chemotherapy treatment but developed an infection and died on Saturday, March 14, just a fortnight after his diagnosis.

Haaris attended West Hill School in Stalybridge. He was widely known for his love of football.
He was also a key member of Dukinfield Tigers’ Under-14s Stripes team and a big Manchester City fan.
Since his passing, tributes have been shared by teammates, coaches and friends, reflecting the impact he had both on and off the pitch.
His funeral took place on Monday, March 16 at Hamzah Mosque in Ashton, where hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects.
Further events are planned in his memory, including a balloon release at Palace Road field in Ashton this Saturday, March 21 at 4.30pm, where the community will come together to remember him.
A tribute is also planned at Wembley Stadium, where fans attending the Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Arsenal have been asked to join in a minute’s applause during the 13th minute. The call was made by one of Haaris’ coaches, Ciaran Henshaw.
In a statement, Dukinfield Tigers chairman Paul Heathcote said the club was “devastated” by the loss.
“Haaris Ansari was part of the U14’s Stripes team and was a hugely popular member of the group,” he said.
“Sadly, a number of weeks ago Haaris was diagnosed with leukaemia and sadly lost his battle.
“Haaris always had a huge smile on his face. He always encouraged his teammates and was a regular at our U14’s games supporting the lads from the sidelines when he wasn’t playing.
“Haaris loved Tigers, he loved his teammates and loved his coaches.
“Tigers have lost one of their own today, and this has left a huge hole that will never be filled.
“His memory will live on forever.”
A fundraising page has also been set up by one of Haaris’ close friends to support his family, with donations continuing to be made.
