RESIDENTS in Denton are being invited to give their views on plans for a new bus stop on Windmill Lane.
It follows concerns raised about access to bus services in the area.
Denton West councillors Brenda Warrington, Mike Smith and George Jones say a number of residents have contacted them about difficulties accessing buses between existing stops.
The councillors said in a statement: “A number of residents, particularly those who are elderly or disabled, have been in touch with us to raise concerns regarding access to bus services between the bus stop near the junction of Fairview Road on Windmill Lane, and the bus stop at the junction of Dane Road on Windsor Road.”
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has now begun a consultation about installing an additional stop in the vicinity.
According to a consultation letter sent to residents, TfGM is proposing to install the new bus stop on Windmill Lane in Denton for bus service number 7 and school services 701 and 705.
The stop would be located outside property number 760, with the bus stop pole positioned opposite the boundary of properties 731 and 733.
TfGM said the proposal forms part of its wider aim to “make travel easier in Greater Manchester”.
The authority added that it is working in partnership with the local highways department, Greater Manchester Police, bus operators and other stakeholders to improve infrastructure and ensure the reliability and punctuality of bus services.
As part of the assessment process, a joint site visit has already been carried out with the local highways department and Greater Manchester Police, with representatives deeming the location suitable for a new bus stop.
Residents and local businesses affected by the proposal are now being invited to submit their views before a final decision is made.
Anyone wishing to comment on the plans can contact TfGM by email at hello@beenetwork.com by April 23.
