Stalybridge canal gets a Green boost with new planter

VOLUNTEERS from Stalybridge Town Team have partnered with the Canal & River Trust (CRT) to deliver a new environmental improvement project along the canal near Tesco in Stalybridge.

As part of ongoing joint efforts to enhance the town centre’s green spaces, volunteers worked alongside CRT staff to construct and plant a bespoke canal‑boat‑style planter on the towpath.

The planter has now been fully stocked with a selection of herbs and wildflowers, chosen to support biodiversity and add colour to the popular walking route.

The project was completed during a recent collaborative session, with Town Team volunteer Jacqui joining the CRT lead to carry out the planting.

Additional volunteers, including Mark Woodcock, also supported the initiative.

A spokesperson for Stalybridge Town Team said the planter demonstrates the value of partnership working in improving the local environment and creating welcoming spaces for residents and visitors.

Both organisations have expressed their commitment to continuing joint activities throughout the year, with further environmental improvements planned for the Stalybridge canal corridor and surrounding areas.
