Ashton-under-Lyne Town Team is gearing up for the return of its annual awards evening, a celebration designed to highlight the people, projects and independent businesses that help keep the town centre thriving.
The event, which has become a fixture in the community calendar, brings together volunteers, traders and local organisations whose work contributes to the life and character of the town.
Organisers say this year’s ceremony will shine an even brighter spotlight on the individuals who go above and beyond to support Ashton’s high street.

Recognising the people behind the town centre
The awards will once again feature categories that reflect the breadth of activity taking place in Ashton, including recognition for independent retailers, community-led initiatives, event organisers and those who consistently champion the town centre.
Town Team members say the evening is an important opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of volunteers who support everything from seasonal events and promotional campaigns to environmental improvements and heritage projects.
Many of last year’s nominees have since expanded their work or collaborated with other groups across Tameside, demonstrating the growing strength of grassroots involvement.
Supporting Ashton’s regeneration
With ongoing investment in the town centre and a renewed focus on independent business, the Town Team hopes the awards will encourage even more residents and traders to get involved in shaping Ashton’s future.
A spokesperson said the event “celebrates the people who put their heart into making Ashton a welcoming and vibrant place,” adding that the awards are “as much about community pride as they are about achievement.”
The date and venue for this year’s ceremony will be confirmed in the coming weeks, along with the full list of categories and nominees. The Town Team is currently finalising its shortlist and inviting suggestions from residents who wish to highlight individuals or groups deserving of recognition.
