Ashton bank branch set to close

ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE’S high street is set to suffer another blow after it was announced the town’s branch of Halifax will close.

Lloyds Banking Group has included the establishment in The Arcades shopping centre on its list of 95 to shut across the country.

And after a number of banking names disappeared from the Tameside town, another is earmarked to go on June 1.

When announcing the latest closures, the group confirmed all employees working at the affected branches will be offered alternative roles within the business or at other locations.

Halifax, which will see 31 branches close, states: “When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers – including how they continue to access banking services.

“Because of this, we may sometimes have a community banker visit the area after the branch closes.

“Or as part of an independent review, a Banking Hub or deposit service may be set up in a nearby location.”

As things stand, the nearest Banking Hub to Ashton-under-Lyne is in Stalybridge, with a community banker from Halifax there on Wednesdays.
