Stalybridge business looks to open new bar

A STALYBRIDGE business hopes to open a second venue in the town as a standalone bar.

Ol’s Bier and More, on Market Street, has applied to Tameside Council to convert a unit at Waterloo Court into a ‘drinking establishment.’

Already, its current premises has a bar facility, but if approved this new one in what was a gymnasium would see its footprint expand.

According to the application lodged by Ol’s owner Shaun Bishop, the new premises would look to be able to open from 10am until midnight and 10-1am on a Saturday.

And documents supporting the application state there will be no external changes, other than a new shopfront, with a ‘minimal internal reconfiguration.’

They say: “Rather than harming the conservation area, the replacement shopfront improves the appearance of the parade by ensuring cohesion and alignment with neighbouring units, avoiding visual clutter or discordant design.

“No historic fabric is affected. The works will result in no harm to the significance of the conservation area.”

Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel (Planning) committee, or officers, will decide whether to grant or refuse permission.
