Free European food and drink night in Denton invites people to try something new in the New Year!

People across Tameside are being invited to start the New Year by trying something a little different, as Denton Town Twinning hosts a relaxed drop-in open evening with free European food and drink in January.

The event will take place on Monday, January 19 from 7pm in central Denton, and is open to anyone curious about European culture, travel, food or simply meeting new people locally. There is nothing formal planned – people are welcome to drop in at any point, enjoy the food and drink on offer, and chat.

With food and drink inspired by Denton’s twin towns and beyond, the open night offers an opportunity to learn more about Denton’s twinning links with France and Germany, meet existing members, and see whether getting involved might be right for them. There is no obligation, and organisers stress that the evening is designed to be friendly, informal and pressure-free.

The event forms part of Denton Town Twinning’s “New Year. New Hobby.” campaign, encouraging people to consider a new interest in 2026 – from cultural exchanges and social events to travel opportunities and new friendships.

Cllr George Newton, Chair of Denton Town Twinning, said:

“What better way to start the New Year than with free food and drink? This will be a relaxed, informal evening for anyone curious about our twin towns or looking to try a new hobby in 2026. There’s no pressure — just come along, enjoy some food and drink, and find out what town twinning is all about.”

While the event is free, advance registration is required to help organisers plan catering. Free tickets can be booked here: www.linktr.ee/DentonTwinning

Denton has been twinned with Montigny-le-Bretonneux in France since 1992 and Kierspe in Germany since 2012. Denton Town Twinning Association organises cultural exchanges, social events and trips that build friendships and links between communities.

Town twinning is all about people – not politics. The organisation relies entirely on generous donations and fundraising, not public money.
