Tameside Macmillan Unit launches new bereavement support group to help people through loss

A new bereavement support group is being launched by the Tameside Macmillan Unit, offering a safe, compassionate space for people affected by cancer who are coping with the loss of a loved one.

The first session takes place on Wednesday December 17 from 10am to 12pm at The Monastery Manchester in Gorton.

The launch coincides with National Grief Awareness Week, held from December 2 to 8, which aims to reduce the isolation so often felt after a bereavement and encourage open conversations about loss.

This year’s theme, ‘Growing with Grief’, focuses on finding strength, stability and connection during the grieving process.

Tania Armstrong, Macmillan Information and Support Officer at Tameside Macmillan Unit, said:

“The death of a loved one is often painful and overwhelming, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Our new bereavement support group is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. It’s a great opportunity to share your feelings without judgement, while receiving expert support to process your grief in a safe environment.”

The group will give attendees the chance to listen, talk, and reflect in confidence, supported by trained facilitators who can offer both emotional guidance and practical coping strategies. They will also be able to signpost people to specialist grief and wellbeing support when needed.

The Monastery Manchester provides free parking and accessible facilities for all visitors.
