Denton travel agents sing the praises of vital funds for hospice

TRAVEL agents in Denton have hit the high notes after raising more than £1,600 for Willow Wood Hospice.

Workers at Hays, on Manchester Road, organised an event at the town’s cricket club to boost the coffers of the Ashton-under-Lyne facility, which provides high-quality specialist palliative and end-of-life care, support and education across Tameside and Glossop.

More than 90 guests attended and they where they were treated to live music from local singer Colin George, along with a potato pie supper made by local Councillor Denise Ward. There were also lots of raffle prizes up for grabs.

And the grand total left staff members bowled over.

Assistant manager at Hays Travel Denton, Sophie Harrison, said: “We chose Willow Wood to fundraise for as it is a charity that provides such important care to people within our local community.

“We were so thankful to the local businesses who provided gifts for our raffle including gift vouchers, hampers, and flowers.

“Also to Councillor Denise Ward who provided a complimentary potato pie supper and to Colin George, who works closely with Willow Wood Hospice and kindly volunteered to perform at the event.”

Each Hays Travel branch is provided with a £500 budget to use for fundraising and charity work in their local area – £200 of this is to be used to fundraise for charities which support young people’s mental health and the other £300 can be used for those chosen by the branch.

In the last year, Hays Travel’s Local Community Partnership initiative across its retail network has donated more than £177,000 to local charities.

Tara Farren, of Willow Wood Hospice, added: “Wow, what an incredible amount of money!

“What a brilliant night as well. Well done again. Such an achievement and we really appreciate it.”
