Carrbrook dry cleaners faces period of closure following fire

A STALYBRIDGE dry cleaning business faces being closed for weeks after a fire.

An electrical fault is believed to have caused the blaze at WOW Carrbrook Cleaning Services, on Buckton Vale Road in Carrbrook, on the evening of Monday, December 1.

Countless loads of washing, including sports kits – one of which belongs to Mossley AFC – are said to have been affected, mainly by melting plastic and smoke.

Visible impact can be seen in the form of a black soot mark on an external sign.

Now a clean-up operation is ongoing, with staff slowly rescuing what is in the shop first.

Plastic tubs clothes are contained in, as well as large bags, are said to have melted and impacted garments after the breakout of the blaze triggered a chain reaction.

But an extended period of closure is likely as insurance assessors first need to inspect the premises before making a decision on what can be claimed.

WOW has been a staple of Carrbrook life for more than three decades and staff are on site regularly to sort out what is left.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) told The Correspondent: “At about 10pm on Monday, December 1, three fire engines from Oldham, Stalybridge and Mossley fire stations attended a commercial building fire on Buckton Vale Road, Stalybridge.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used one hose reel and breaking in gear to extinguish the fire.

“Crews departed after roughly 90 minutes in attendance.”
