INQUISITIVE students in Droylsden had the chance to quiz their local MP during this year’s UK Parliament Week.
Ashton-under-Lyne MP Angela Rayner spent time with pupils at Droylsden Academy and Fairfield High School for Girls.
She heard how they’d been exploring the role of Parliament and learning more about how democracy works.
Rather than a formal lecture, the MP’s sessions turned into lively conversations covering everything from global politics to the more unexpected topics teenagers throw into the mix.

“School visits are the best bit of my job and the conversations I have with young people always leave me feeling hopeful and inspired,” Ms Rayner said after the visits.
“We discussed everything from foreign affairs and my life as an MP to mustard on burgers and the price of Freddos.”
UK Parliament Week encourages schools and community groups to get hands-on with themes such as debating, elections, and how laws are made.
The MP added: “Over 2.5 million people across the country – including 27 organisations in my constituency – took part this year. Thank you to everyone who got involved.”
