Free festive fun lined up for eligible Tameside children

FAMILIES across Tameside are being offered a helping hand this winter as a packed calendar of free holiday activities is unveiled for children eligible for benefit-related free school meals.

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme is returning for December with a mix of festive sessions and non-Christmas options.

The line-up includes Christmas parties, ice-skating, bowling and even visits from Father Christmas – while SEND-friendly sessions will offer calmer, more accessible activities for children who need them.

Each booking also includes a hot, nutritious meal, ensuring youngsters can enjoy both food and fun during the break.

“It’s wonderful to see Tameside filled with family-friendly activities that make the festive season magical for our young people,” said Councillor Teresa Smith, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Children and Families.

“The HAF Programme is invaluable all year round, supporting parents during school holidays by creating safe spaces where children can play, eat and thrive. By offering free activities for children from reception to Year 11 alongside a nutritious meal, we’re helping families make lasting memories.”

Sessions will run at venues throughout the borough, with places expected to book up quickly. Full event details and eligibility information can be found at Tameside Council’s HAF website page at www.tameside.gov.uk/haf
