Warm Welcome Hubs reopen across Tameside as winter pressures rise

As temperatures begin to drop and concerns over rising energy bills continue, Tameside Council is once again opening its network of Warm Welcome Hubs to support residents throughout the colder months.

The hubs, located in libraries, community centres, churches and other community venues across the borough, offer free, safe and welcoming spaces for anyone needing warmth or company. Many provide practical amenities such as free Wi-Fi, computers, charging points and books, with some hosting regular activities or offering guidance on local support services.

The hubs, located in libraries, community centres, churches and other community venues across the borough, offer free, safe and welcoming spaces for anyone needing warmth or company.

The initiative forms part of the council’s wider Helping Hand programme, designed to bring together cost-of-living support for those who need it most. The hubs aim not only to provide warmth but also to help tackle loneliness and isolation during the winter period.

Councillor Taf Sharif, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing, said:

“We know that winter can be a difficult time for many, especially with the ongoing cost-of-living challenges. Our Warm Welcome Hubs offer more than warmth — they offer friendship, connection and support. We’re incredibly proud to work with our community partners to create these spaces of kindness and comfort across Tameside.”

Residents are encouraged to check what’s on offer at each hub, as facilities and opening times vary. Full details can be found at www.tameside.gov.uk/warm-welcome-hub.

The message from the council is simple: no one should face winter alone.
