Denton strengthens international friendships with twin town visit

DENTON was alive with international camaraderie as delegations from its twin towns arrived for a packed programme celebrating culture, friendship and future collaboration.

Hosted by local families, the visitors from Montigny-le-Bretonneux in France and Kierspe in Germany got a true taste of everyday life in the Tameside town.

They had guided tours of the town and Manchester, explored Portland Basin Museum in Ashton-under-Lyne, and even sampled local brews at a nearby beer festival.

Beyond sightseeing, the weekend served as a vital opportunity for representatives from all three towns to plan new exchanges and joint projects between schools, clubs, and community groups for the year ahead.

Councillor George Newton, Chair of Denton Town Twinning Association, said: “Twinning is about building friendships across borders and creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect, learn and share experiences.

“It was fantastic to welcome our friends from Montigny and Kierspe back to Denton and to see such enthusiasm for keeping these partnerships alive for the next generation.”

The Denton Town Twinning Association plays a key role in cultivating links with the French and German communities, helping to generate understanding and cooperation through shared activities and cultural visits.

Run entirely by volunteers and supported through donations, the association is always looking for new members and supporters to help strengthen its international ties.
