Tameside Toy Appeal returns to bring Christmas magic to children in need

THIS year’s Tameside Toy Appeal is officially under way to help bring a little Christmas joy to children who might otherwise go without.

The appeal run by charity Action Together together with Tameside Council collects new toys and gifts for children of all ages up to 18 years old.

These are then distributed to families across the borough who are struggling this festive season.

Local residents and businesses generously supported last year’s appeal

For many households in Tameside, this winter will be tougher than ever, in the midst of rising costs and tough choices between heating and eating. For those families, the idea of gifts under the tree can feel completely out of reach.

“Every toy, every gift, every act of kindness makes a real difference,” said a spokesperson for Action Together. “Together, we can bring hope, joy and a little Christmas magic to families who need it most.”

Residents are encouraged to donate new and unused toys or gifts suitable for children and young people up to the age of 18.

These can include sensory toys; books; building blocks; bath toys; play mats; fancy dress costumes; puzzles; remote control toys; stationery; books; gloves; hats; headphones; card games; science kits; board games; jigsaws; arts and craft kits; and cosmetic gift sets.

Donations can be made up until Friday, December 12. A full list of drop-off locations across the borough can be found at www.actiontogether.org.uk/tameside-toy-appeal-2025

For those unable to donate in person, monetary contributions can be made via the JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/campaign/tamesidetoyappeal2025. It will remain open until Tuesday, December 23, and all funds raised will go towards buying gifts for age groups with the fewest donations.
