PUPILS from Broadbottom CE Primary School and Mottram CE Primary School have joined forces with Mottram Parish Church to support local families through a major foodbank donation to Tameside South Foodbank.
On Wednesday, October 22, pupils from both schools visited the foodbank at Central Methodist Church in Hyde following a hugely successful Harvest collection. Together, the schools and parish community donated 261.3kg of food – enough to provide 623 single meals for families facing hardship.

The Tameside South Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust network, provides vital support to those experiencing food insecurity across the region.
Mrs Liz Crosby, Headteacher of Mottram CE Primary School, said:
“It was a huge response from families and community members across Mottram Parish. It was a lovely opportunity for pupils from both schools to visit the foodbank and see how their donations are being used to support local families.”
The visit gave pupils valuable insight into how food donations are sorted, stored and distributed, helping them understand the importance of community support and the difference their contributions make.
Mrs Marrow, Headteacher at Broadbottom CE (VC) Primary, said she was delighted to see pupils learning first-hand about the work of the volunteers.
“Families in school give plentiful donations to this worthy cause at harvest time each year and recognise the need for this provision. We hope to support the cause in the years to come, with more pupils having the opportunity to visit and have a first-hand experience of the excellent work done there.”
The foodbank operates from Central Methodist Church in Hyde every Wednesday, with additional services at St Barnabas Church, Hattersley on Fridays. Residents wishing to donate or in need of support are encouraged to attend either location.
Both schools say they hope the visit will inspire further community involvement in helping local families throughout the year.
