Drivers face disruption in Hollingworth as roadworks resume

MOTORISTS in Hollingworth and surrounding areas are being warned to expect further disruption as the next phase of the A57 Link Roads project gets under way.

National Highways will be carrying out utility diversion and signage installation works along Woolley Bridge.

To ensure safety, a lane closure and temporary traffic lights will be in place around the clock for the duration of the two-week period, from Monday, November 3 to Monday, November 17.

Residents living near the works may also face temporary parking restrictions. However, National Highways says it will work closely with them to maintain access wherever possible.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys through the affected areas.

Additional overnight works to remove telecommunication poles are scheduled for the week beginning November 17 (from 7pm to 6am), followed by daytime works the following week, commencing November 24 (from 7.30am to 6pm).

While short-term traffic management will be in place, National Highways say no major delays are expected and noise levels should remain low.

This latest round of roadworks is part of the £228 million A57 Link Roads scheme, which aims to ease congestion between Manchester and Sheffield.

The project includes a new dual carriageway from the end of the M67 through a Mottram underpass to the A57 east of Back Moor, and a single carriageway from Mottram Moor to Woolley Bridge.

Set for completion in 2028, the scheme will also deliver two new junctions – Mottram Moor Junction and Woolley Bridge Junction – along with improvements to the existing M67 junction 4. Five new structures are planned, including the Roe Cross Road Overbridge, the Mottram Underpass, and the River Etherow Bridge.
