Steampunk spectacle brings retro-futuristic flair Tameside

STEAMPUNK fans descended on Portland Basin Museum as the venue was transformed into a world of Victorian-inspired imagination and science fiction.

Visitors were treated to a day filled with creativity, costume, and craft as the museum hosted its annual steampunk celebration, which brought together enthusiasts from across Tameside and beyond.

Entertainment was on hand courtesy of the Mossley Ukulele Group, who provided a lively soundtrack to the day.

Stalls showcased unique handmade goods, artwork, and vintage items, while guests arrived in elaborate costumes inspired by the industrial age.

The event, held on Saturday, October 12, celebrated all things steampunk — from retro-futuristic gadgets to classic literature and fashion. Families explored the museum’s exhibits alongside the pop-up market and performances, adding to the atmosphere of curiosity and creativity.

Organisers said they were delighted with the turnout and the enthusiasm shown by visitors, many of whom embraced the theme with impressive attention to detail.

The steampunk day once again proved a hit for Portland Basin Museum, blending history, fantasy and fun in a setting that couldn’t have been more fitting.
