WHEN Angie, from Morrisons in Dukinfield, decided to give something back to her community, she didn’t just go the extra mile – but an extra 19 inches.
The big-hearted café worker had her long locks cut off in a bold bid to raise money for patients receiving cancer treatment at the Tameside Macmillan Unit.
Her act of kindness has resulted in an incredible £3,660 donation.
Supported by her loyal regulars and colleagues, Angie’s hair-raising effort brought in an impressive £1,660, which was then boosted by a further £2,000 from the Morrisons Foundation – as part of its 10th anniversary double match-funding scheme.
Angie said she was blown away by the generosity of the community who backed her every step – and snip – of the way.
“I wanted to do something meaningful to give back,” she explained. “The Macmillan Unit helps so many people locally, and I’m just glad I could do my bit.”
Her customers not only sponsored her haircut but also turned out to cheer her on during the big moment.
The funds raised will support patients at the unit, helping to provide comfort, care and those little extras that make a tough journey that bit easier.
Emily Whelan, from Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Angie for her incredible fundraising, and to all her customers and colleagues at Morrisons Dukinfield for their wonderful support. Together, you’ve made a real difference.”
