BEER lovers in Tameside are in for a treat this autumn as two local Wetherspoon pubs prepare to host a 12-day real ale festival.
The Ash Tree on Wellington Road, Ashton-under-Lyne and The Society Rooms on Grosvenor Street, Stalybridge, will both take part in the festival, running from Wednesday, October 1 to Sunday, October 12.

A total of 30 real ales will be available, including five from overseas brewers based in India, France, Australia, and the USA – with beers from India and France being served for the very first time at the pubs.
Many of the ales have been brewed exclusively for the festival, with some offering unique ingredients such as cucumber, lime, vanilla, blackberries, and spices. Among the line-up are four vegan-friendly beers, all priced at £2.15 per pint.
The international showcase will include:
- Newtowner (Young Henrys Brewery, Australia)
- Effingut (Effingut Brewery, India)
- Blue Coast (Ambrée Brewery, France)
- Automatic Pale Ale (Creature Comforts Brewery, USA)
- Alesmith IPA (Alesmith Brewery, USA)
They will be joined by a wide range of UK-brewed beers, such as Wave Breaker (Orkney Brewery), Velvet Curtain (Titanic Brewery), Double Dog (Elgood’s Brewery), Key Lime (Hogs Back Brewery), As One Door Closes (Salopian Brewery), and Storm Runner (Evan Evans Brewery).
Liza Braddock, manager at The Society Rooms, said:
“The festival is a great celebration of real ale. It gives us the chance to showcase a variety of superb beers, many of which have never been available in our pubs before – including brews from as far afield as Australia and India, as well as closer to home. And, as always, the beers will be excellent value for money.”
Festival-goers will also be able to enjoy three third-of-a-pint tasters for the price of a pint, with tasting notes available in a special festival magazine – both in print at the pubs and digitally on the Wetherspoon app.
All ales will be available to order at the bar or via the app throughout the event.
