A DROYLSDEN Scout group is preparing to celebrate 110 years of activity with a Heritage Open Day and Garden Party.
The group, founded in 1916, will reach the anniversary in 2026. To begin a year of celebrations, it is inviting the public to its headquarters on Ellen Street (M43 7YA) on Saturday, September 21, from 12pm to 2pm.
The event will include traditional garden games, arts and crafts, and a display of photographs and memorabilia tracing the history of Scouting in the town.
Refreshments of tea, coffee and scones will be available, served by volunteers.
The Scout hut, which has stood for more than half a century, will host the activities. Its surrounding garden, featuring a wildflower area and allotment, regularly provides space for young members to learn practical skills.
As part of the wider celebrations, the group is planning a full summer camp in 2026, ensuring that members from Squirrels and Beavers through to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers continue to share in the traditions of the movement.
