New dementia music café set to start in Stalybridge

PEOPLE in Tameside living with dementia – and their carers – will soon be able to have even more fun making music together.

That’s because a local charity will soon be hosting not one but two dementia music cafés in the borough.

The free sessions offer a welcoming space where participants can use rhythm and song to communicate and express themselves.

People living with dementia can make new friends, as well as improve their mood and wellbeing.

The Ashton-under-Lyne café at Broadoak Community Centre returns on September 10 and every Wednesday from 10.30am to midday.

There’s also the launch of a new café on September 23 and every Tuesday at St Andrews House in Stalybridge, at the same time from 10.30am to midday.

No previous music experience is needed to attend either of the cafés, which are hosted by local mental health charity Tameside, Oldham and Glossop (TOG) Mind.
