A SWIMMING club in Tameside have struck gold once again with a third successive gala win.
Ashton-under-Lyne Swimming Club swam their way to the top to be crowned champions at this year’s Intertown Celebration Gala.
For the third year running, the club made a big splash to take home the prestigious title at Manchester Aquatics Centre.
The swimmers outpaced tough competition from Hyde, Dukinfield and Saddleworth, as well as Saracens (Hazel Grove), Romiley, Marple and Wilmslow.

The victory caps off another wave of success for the team, having also been crowned league champions for the third consecutive year and going the whole season undefeated – having never finished lower than second place since 2016.
Adding to the trophy haul, the club also scooped the Seniors Winners Shield and were runners-up in the Junior Shield.
Steve Shilley, the club’s chairman, told The Correspondent: “It’s a brilliant finale to an excellent season. Well done to all 79 swimmers who represented the club during the season.
“I am really proud of all the swimmers that swam so well in the gala, and of the club that is still doing an amazing job without a pool in Ashton.”
