PEOPLE living on an Audenshaw street that has been split in two since a train derailment have been told to wait a little longer for its ‘reunification.’
Sidmouth Street has resembled Berlin before the Wall came down after a freight locomotive came off the tracks in September.
The incident, which saw nine wagons carrying aggregate come off at the bridge over the footpath, has seen Network Rail close off the area.

Railings and mounds of earth were placed underneath it, completely blocking the path.
To get from ‘East to West,’ pedestrians must walk along Audenshaw Road – a journey of about 10 minutes.
Now residents have been informed works to install new steelwork on the structure have been delayed by almost a month.
In an email, Network Rail states: “As part of the project to improve and maintain the bridge, we’ve been installing new structural steelwork to help keep the railway safe and reliable for years to come.
We had originally planned to complete this stage of work by Friday, July 25.
“However, due to the need to redeploy part of our team to support an emergency scheme in the Manchester area, progress has been slower than expected.
“As a result, the revised completion date for this phase is now Friday, August 22.
“We understand that ongoing work in your area isn’t always easy to live with, and we really do appreciate your patience while we carry out this important upgrade.
“We’re sorry for the change, and we want to reassure you that we’re doing everything we can to complete the work as safely and quickly as possible.”
