Stalybridge pharmacy targets move in new proposal

A STALYBRIDGE pharmacy will relocate across a main road if planning permission is granted.

Talha Patel, of the Manor – which is situated on Huddersfield Road in Millbrook – has applied to Tameside Council to convert what is currently a dessert takeaway and add a small extension at its rear.

And if it gets the go-ahead, the business will move from its current location opposite.

Millbrook Pharmacy plans to relocate over the road

Documents also state changes will be minimal and would benefit the area, saying: “Although not a designated heritage asset, the site contributes to the character of the Millbrook Conservation Area by providing an active frontage and visual continuity.

“Its commercial role supports the vibrancy of the area.

“The mid-20th century shops are typical of their period and have some original shop front surrounds that are worth retaining in future schemes.

“In this regard the existing frontage will not be altered and anything worth retaining will be untouched.

“If anything, the proposed to the works will enhance the existing building and positively contribute to the conservation area.

“This change will not introduce a new use into the area but simply transfer an essential community service across the road.

“This ensures continuity of provision with minimal local disruption.”

Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel (Planning) committee will decide whether to grant or refuse permission.
