Tameside nurses shortlisted for prestigious national awards

THREE teams of local nurses have been named as finalists in four categories at this year’s Nursing Times Awards.

The awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession.

The teams who work for Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Tameside Hospital, will find out if they have won the awards at a London ceremony on October 22.

The integrated critical care research programme has been nominated for the Clinical Research Nursing Award.

Carrying out research ranging from small-scale studies to international clinical trials, the team’s work has helped answer questions about the best ways to treat patients with life-threatening conditions, of benefit to future critically-ill patients.

Meanwhile, the Aspirant Cancer and Education Development (ACCEND) international nurse development project has been nominated for the Dame Elizabeth Anionwu Award for Inclusivity in Nursing and Midwifery.

It provides career guidance, education, training and development opportunities for nurses, allied health professionals (AHPs) and pharmacists who care for people affected by cancer.

Lastly, the blended roles programme is up for two awards – the Nursing in the Community Award and The King’s Award for Integrated Approaches to Care.

It led to the recruitment of the first-ever blended roles facilitator in Greater Manchester. The delegation works across both health and social care services to empower, educate and implement the programme, which helps upskill carers.

Jacqui Burrow, the Trust’s Chief Nurse, said: “I am delighted to see our nursing teams getting recognition for all their hard work, which I am incredibly proud of and grateful for.

“These projects are each helping to make nursing more inclusive and innovative, ultimately leading to better care for our patients.”
