A TAMESIDE theatre has welcomed a financial boost from an arts charity named after a legendary comedian, singer and writer.
Hyde Festival Theatre says it is “thrilled” to have received a grant from The Victoria Wood Foundation.
The charity, formerly known as The Victoria Wood Charitable Trust, was set up following the death of Victoria Wood in 2016 from cancer at the age of 62.
With the trustees former friends of Victoria, they welcome applications in areas that would have interested the Bafta-award winning actress who found fame in the 1980s – namely the arts in all its forms.
The team at the Corporation Street venue, which is home to several local amateur groups, put in a bid for funding which has been successful.
The grant – the amount of which has not been disclosed – will help the theatre install a new communications system which will improve coordination between the backstage crew, technical teams and front-of-house volunteers.
A spokesperson said: “A huge thank you to the Foundation for supporting grassroots arts and helping us honour Victoria’s legacy right here in Tameside.
“Here’s to smoother shows, safer sets, and an even better experience for everyone who walks through our doors!”
