STUDENTS from Tameside are celebrating their achievement after participating in the world’s biggest ever cooking challenge.
Attendees of Works4U in Stalybridge joined more than 700 schools and 15,000 students around the world.
The global cookery challenge saw learners making fresh pasta from scratch, along with a no-cook pasta sauce, all at the same time to set a new Guinness World Record.
The previous mark from 2015 had 6,778 participants – all cooking at the same time.
Works 4U Support Services offers tailored guidance and training to young people who may need a more hands-on or alternative learning environment.
The centre’s catering students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, showing off their skills in the kitchen and working together as a team.
Dylan, aged 18, said: “It went really well and I enjoyed making the pasta.”
Kelsey, another student who took part, added: “It was challenging but also fun at the same time.”
Mark Hyde, centre manager and head of catering at Works4U, praised the effort and energy shown by everyone involved.
“It was a brilliant team effort,” he said. “There was great team building, so many skills gained, and a big well done to all students who participated.”
Jamie Oliver added: “We did it!
“I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve broken the Guinness World Records title for the largest cookery lesson (multiple venues) ever.
“It just goes to show what an impact we can have when we come together to celebrate the joy of learning how to cook.
“We couldn’t have done it without everyone who joined the class – so thank you, each and every one of you, and cheers to us!”
