PROJECTS being carried out by six community groups in the Hyde area have received a welcome cash injection.
The groups discovered that their work over the next 12 months was awarded funding from Tameside Council at an event at St George’s Church in Hyde.
The South Neighbourhood Tameside Communities Grant Fund event is run every year by the council’s Community Safety Team.

The shortlisted groups from the borough’s South wards – including Godley, Newton, Werneth and Longdendale – recently met with the council team, Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity Stephen Homer, and Werneth councillor Shibley Alam – who is also the current Civic Mayor of Tameside – to help delegate awarded funding.
Each group put forward a proposal for a project and delivered a presentation in order to receive votes.
To qualify, projects had to be based around one or more of three themes: activities that reduce harmful behaviour; improving environmental resilience and challenges; and empowering communities to transform lives.
Community groups included Menopause Your Way, Mottram Risers, Friends of St Vincent’s Park, Ark of Hope, Tameside Little Gems and Hattersley Big Community Garden – covering a range of projects supporting both the young and old.
“This is a fantastic initiative to help support our local community groups,” said Councillor Homer.
“It was great to see the presentations of the projects and see the passion they have for bettering the community. The keen involvement of the community groups goes to show how beneficial the grant funds can be. We can’t wait to see the development over the next 12 months.”
Lifeline Community Ambulance CIC also gave its first aid services for free during the event.
